• The Beginning

Kipseli Means Bombin’ is an independent research and archival project that essentially began in 2014, when Reboot permanently settled in Kipseli. His relationship with the neighborhood, however, goes back to his childhood, as it is part of his family’s history and he used to come and go there frequently. The first 3 years became a period of getting to know both Kipseli and Athens as a whole through daily urban explorations, trying to understand where he had gotten himself into.

• The Idea

In 2017, Reboot decided to focus his urban exploration on a specific area: Kipseli. His daily interaction with its streets, stories, and people became the ideal starting point for creating an archive that would document its constant evolution. During the same period, the graffiti writer KMB entered the most productive phase of his career, determined to leave his mark on every street of the neighborhood. His activity became both an inspiration and one of the main reasons behind the birth of the project.

• From Book to Archive

At the end of 2017, the Instagram profile Reboot 93 was created, and the idea for a photography book titled Kipseli Means Bombin’ was born, dedicated to Kipseli’s graffiti scene and specifically to the work of KMB. The release was scheduled for 2020. The corona virus, however, changed those plans, leading to the decision to include that period in the project as well, since it became a turning point both for Kipseli and for the entire world. In the years that followed, the neighborhood continued to transform, and the archive grew significantly.

• The Evolution

Over time, the material expanded far beyond the limits of a book. Photographs, videos, graffiti, street stories, architecture, art, interviews, and personal documentation came together to form a constantly evolving archive that could no longer be confined to printed form. Continuous encounters with people who became interested in the project, along with the word-of-mouth spread of its idea throughout all these years, turned its release into something of an urban myth. So, in July 2026, the final decision was made: Kipseli Means Bombin’ would become a living digital platform.

• kipseli.net and The Purpose

kipseli.net is the natural evolution of the project. It is an online database, organized around an interactive map, where each pin will gather material related to a specific location in Kipseli. The goal is to create an open, constantly expanding archive of the neighborhood, documenting its past, present, and future through photos, videos, graffiti, art, architecture, and the stories of its people.

Where this project will ultimately lead is something we will all discover together when the time is right.
